What is ISO/IEC 18032 about?
ISO/IEC 18032 discusses methods to generate and test prime numbers that are required in cryptographic protocols and algorithms.
The methods mentioned under ISO/IEC 18032 are:
- Probabilistic primality tests
- Deterministic methods
Note: Under ISO/IEC 18032 the deterministic method still makes use of random bits and ‘deterministic” only refers to the fact that the output is correct with probability one.
Who is ISO/IEC 18032 for?
ISO/IEC 18032 on prime number generation is relevant for:
- IT companies
- Software engineers
- Developers of cryptographic algorithms
- Developers of computer science-related applications
- Data encryption professionals
Why should you use ISO/IEC 18032?
Prime numbers are fundamental to RSA encryption to keep your data and information safe.
ISO/IEC 18032 assists in keeping your encrypted messages safe and secure by use of prime numbers for developing RSA encryption systems.
ISO/IEC 18032 can help secure the transmission of crucial information like credit card numbers online.
ISO/IEC 18032 provides cyber information security across the internet by generating a system using prime numbers.
Efficient testing and generation of prime numbers can enhance the quality and efficiency of information security systems.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO/IEC 18032:2020 supersedes BS ISO/IEC 18032:2005, which is withdrawn. The main changes are:
- Addition of the Elliptic curve primality proving algorithm
- Addition of Shawe-Taylor algorithm
- Addition of the algorithm to generate primes with side conditions
