What is ISO/IEC 18033-6 about?
ISO/IEC 18033-6 is the sixth part of the IT Security techniques multi-series standard for cybersecurity.
ISO/IEC 18033-6 specifies the following methods for homomorphic encryption:
- Exponential ElGamal encryption
- Paillier encryption
ISO/IEC 18033-6 on homomorphic encryption covers:
- Generating parameters and the keys for the involved entities
- Encrypting data
- Decrypting encrypted data
- Homomorphically operating on encrypted data
- Object identifiers assigned to the mechanisms
- Numerical examples have been provided.
Who is ISO/IEC 18033-6 for?
ISO/IEC 18033-6 on IT Security techniques (homomorphic encryption) is useful for:
- Technology enterprises
- IT and ITES firms
- Encryption software firms
- Software application firms
- Cybersecurity teams
- Defence agencies
- Financial institutions
- Web hosting platforms
Why should you use ISO/IEC 18033-6?
As a business, you and exchange store confidential information such as employee records, financial transactions, customer details, and passwords. If unprotected, this data can be misused by third parties for frauds such as identity theft or phishing scams. Data encryption is one way to ensure its protection. ISO/IEC 18033-6 specifies two encryption mechanism algorithms for homomorphic encryption.
Homomorphic encryption allows you to safely share sensitive data through public channels or through public domains. Exponential ElGamal encryption and Paillier encryption are two such encryption mechanisms. ISO/IEC 18033-6 informs on how to execute these mechanisms by giving you the algorithms of parameter generating, data encrypting, data decrypting and homomorphically operating on encrypted data.
