What is ISO/IEC 21471 about?
ISO/IEC 21471 discusses the requirements for the extended rectangular data matrix (DMRE).
ISO/IEC 21471 specifies the DMRE code symbology characteristics, data character encodation, symbol formats, dimensions and print quality requirements, error correction rules, decoding algorithm, and user-selectable application parameters.
ISO/IEC 21471 is an extension of ISO/IEC 16022 to which it adds rectangular formats.
ISO/IEC 21471 applies to all DMRE code symbols that are produced by any printing or marking technology.
Note: Under ISO/IEC 21471 original data matrix code sizes are not covered.
Who is ISO/IEC 21471 for?
ISO/IEC 21471 on DMRE bar code symbology is relevant to:
- Bar code equipment manufacturers
- Developers
- Logistics management
- Postal services
- Application areas such as laser marking and direct part marking
- Industries including but not limited to aerospace, electronics and automotive
Why should you use ISO/IEC 21471?
Extended rectangular data matrix (DMRE) is a two-dimensional matrix symbology which is made up of nominally square modules arranged within a perimeter finder pattern.
ISO/IEC 21471 helps in developing and improving equipment hence, making them more adaptable to market demands.
As DMRE code includes various encodation schemes that allows a defined set of characters to be converted into codewords more efficiently than the default scheme, ISO/IEC 21471 helps analyse the data stream to identify the variety of different characters to be encoded.
ISO/IEC 21471 helps in making the equipment compatible to support DMRE for the purpose of printing and scanning the new rectangular formats.
Specifications under ISO/IEC 21471 help in improving the data capture techniques. You will be able to insert additional codewords to switch between the encodation schemes and to perform other functions.
