What is ISO/IEC 21481 about?
ISO/IEC 21481 specifies the mechanism to detect an external RF field and select one communication mode out of those four possible communication modes and switching mechanism which is designed not to disturb any ongoing communication at 13,56 MH for devices implementing ISO/IEC 18092, the ISO/IEC 14443 or ISO/IEC 15693 series.
ISO/IEC 21481 specifies near field communication (NFC) signal interfaces and protocols which are wireless devices communicating at 13,56 MH and also specifies the subsequent behaviour specifying the communication mode.
Note 1: Communication modes are outside the scope of ISO/IEC 21481.
Who is ISO/IEC 21481 for?
ISO/IEC 21481 on information exchange between systems applies to (NFCIP-2) :
- Telecom companies
- Mobile phone manufacturers
- Wireless chip manufactures
- Communication device manufacturers
- Quality control personnel
- Design engineers
- Research and development teams
Why should you use ISO/IEC 21481?
Near field communication interface and protocol 2 (NFCIP-2) helps in increasing the efficiency of exchanging data between systems and detecting an RF field and selecting communication modes out of four possible communication modes.
ISO/IEC 21481 helps you by providing the required information you need to exchange data using NFCIP-2. ISO/IEC 21481 also gives you guidelines to produce nfc chips for wireless transfers.
ISO/IEC 21481 guides you in the production of your communication devices by establishing information exchange between systems. ISO/IEC 21481 aids in switching mechanisms while you are exchanging data between systems. This ensures smooth exchange of data. Smooth data exchange translates to satisfied customers who are able to use the technology without glitches.
What’s changed since the last update?
ISO/IEC 21481:2021 supersedes ISO/IEC 21481:2012 which is withdrawn due to
- Technical advancements
- Improvement of the specification of the mode selection and switching mechanism.
