What is ISO/IEC 24770-5 – Real-time locating system about ?
ISO/IEC 24770-5 defines the test methods for determining the performance characteristics of chirp spread spectrum (CSS) real-time locating system (RTLS) equipment including tags and readers which apply to the selection of equipment that conforms to ISO/IEC 24730-5 for specific applications.
ISO/IEC 24770-5 does not apply to the testing about regulatory or similar requirements.
The RTLS equipment performance parameters included in ISO/IEC 24770-5 only include the chirp spread spectrum (CSS) radio frequencies link between tags and readers.
Unlike ISO/IEC 18305, the tests in ISO/IEC 24770-5 apply exclusively to RTLS equipment defined in ISO/IEC 24730-5 unless specified otherwise.
Who is ISO/IEC 24770-5 – Real-time locating system for ?
ISO/IEC 24770-5 on RTLS devices performance is relevant to:
- Software Engineers
- Manufacturers of RTLS devices
- Automobile Engineers and researchers
- Any entity or organization requiring RTLS for a variety of applications
Why should you use ISO/IEC 24770-5 – Real-time locating system ?
RTLSs (real-time location systems) determine the current location of a target, which can be anything from a vehicle to something in a manufacturing plant to a person.
ISO/IEC 24770-5 specifies a series of tests to determine the performance characteristics of RTLS equipment relative to the ISO/IEC 24730-5 air interfaces. The results of these tests can be used to determine the suitability of RTLS equipment for applications.
You can use ISO/IEC 24770-5 best practice guidance to determine how often equipment can successfully provide location information for the tags and the maximum range of a certain packet error rate.
Overall, ISO/IEC 24770-5 provides test methods and requirements for testing and manufacturing superior quality RTLS devices for different applications so that the accuracy of positioning can be improved, and end-users can obtain accurate location with minimal connectivity issues and no latency.
