What is ISO/IEC 29183 about?
ISO/IEC 29183 discusses Office equipment.
ISO/IEC 29183 specifies a general method for measuring the productivity of digital copying devices and multifunctional devices with various copying modes and a single one-sided original.
ISO/IEC 29183 specifies instructions for the creation of test charts, test procedures, and reporting requirements for the digital copying productivity measurements.
Note1: ISO/IEC 29183 is intended to be used for black and white (B&W) as well as colour digital copying devices and multifunctional devices of any underlying marking technology.
Note 2: ISO/IEC 29183 is not intended to replace the manufacturer's rated speeds.
Who is ISO/IEC 29183 for?
ISO/IEC 29183 on digital copying productivity is relevant to:
- Digital copying devices manufacturers
- Digital copying devices buyers
- Offices
Why should you use ISO/IEC 29183?
Digital copying devices produce copied pages at a different rate than their nominal speed when they are running with different quality modes, different substrate grammage, different job content, and job lengths. So, the degree to which a change in productivity is experienced depends on other parameters of the job stream like image quality modes selected, job content, B&W, and colour reproduction job stream.
BS ISO/IEC 29183 assists in testing and finding the productivity of digital copying devices based on office usage which is useful for purchasing and selling digital copying devices.
BS ISO/IEC 29183 provides the user with a standard that addresses the productivity issues for digital copying devices when using a single one-sided original and can be used as a reference in calculating productivity according to their office use.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO/IEC 29183:2021 supersedes BS ISO/IEC 29183:2010 which is withdrawn. The main changes are:
- Modification in “terms and definitions” clause with regard to the addition of new definition and removal of definitions not used in text
- Addition of “ready delay time” requirement to “test measurement” procedures
- Addition of Annex D for the procedure to determine “ready delay time”
- Annex structure was changed to be consistent with other productivity standards
- Addition of sFCOT from sleep, sFCOT from sleep after 15 min, and sFCOT from off tests and reporting
