SAE AIR6218 provides lessons learned from past certification programs involving integrated aircraft systems and explains the crucial elements to consider when constructing Development Assurance Plans for Integrated Systems (DAPIS). The report supplements SAE ARP4754A by addressing system interrelationships, certification and safety planning, organizational interaction, system boundaries, interface management, validation and verification, configuration management, process assurance, and support for integrated system development.
This report is intended to help aerospace organizations identify gaps and manage the additional risks created by shared resources, complex interfaces, cascading failures, and interactions among functions, systems, and development organizations. It is not guidance for system integration technologies and should be tailored to the needs of each project.
Application Scope: Civil aircraft and aerospace organizations developing, integrating, validating, verifying, and certifying complex integrated systems under development assurance processes.
