summary
A surface vehicle standard defining infrastructure-assisted automated vehicle marshalling for SAE Level 4 driving capabilities in controlled, geofenced private environments.
description
SAE J3292™ APR2026 establishes a common framework for Automated Vehicle Marshalling (AVM) system interoperability, safety, and data integrity. The standard defines AVM concepts of operation, reference system architecture, use cases, functional and performance requirements, wireless communication protocols, and Infrastructure Marshalling Message (IMM) and Vehicle Marshalling Message (VMM) data structures. It covers plant marshalling, depot marshalling, valet parking, electric vehicle charging, infrastructure-assisted sensing, vehicle identification, driving permission, pose data, path and trajectory control, functional safety end-to-end protection, security certificates, and ASN.1 entities for direct LTE-V2X and network-based communications.
Application Scope: Intended for infrastructure-led Automated Vehicle Marshalling systems that provide SAE Level 4 driving capabilities at controlled speeds within geofenced private environments, including plants, depots, valet parking facilities, and electric vehicle charging locations.
