What is CP 2010-2— Steel pipelines about?
CP 2010-2 is the second part of an international multi-series standard that covers the best practices for manufacturing steel pipelines.
CP 2010-2 gives recommendations for the materials, components, design, fabrication, construction, workmanship, and testing of steel pipelines. It deals with the recommendations specific to butt-welded pipelines in section 2, whilst those for pipelines with other than butt-welded joints are dealt with in section 3.
CP 2010-2 includes clauses, in particular, dealing with considerations that may affect the design of the pipeline.
Note: CP 2010-2 does not apply to pipeline installations that are covered by BS 806 nor to piping systems that are covered by BS 3351.
Who is CP 2010-2— Steel pipelines for?
CP 2010-2 on Steel pipelines is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of steel pipelines and components
- Designers of steel pipelines and components
- Metal engineers
- Testing authorities for steel pipelines
- Regulatory authorities
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use CP 2010-2— Steel pipelines?
The essentials of a pipeline are the pipes themselves and the many types of joints that make them into pipelines. The demand and application of steel pipelines have risen, as they have become the main network of oil and gas transmission. Thus, it is essential that a pipeline should acquire a particular pressure capacity and should be able to sustain pressure fluctuations during the extended lifetime.
CP 2010-2 covers the design and construction of pipelines utilizing steel pipes in order to help users to manufacture the pipelines that enable them to last for the design life. It showcases the types of pipelines and against each type are shown some of the general applications.
CP 2010-2 provides you with guidance on technical requirements to be considered for steel pipelines which include not only design considerations but also measures for cleaning, testing, and commissioning. This makes it easier for the users like manufacturers and installers, to get the guidelines all in one place.
CP 2010-2 talks about the suitability of materials and components required for particular pipes in order to enable the users to install a pipeline system. This helps them to make a choice of the pipeline for any particular application, depending on the service and environmental conditions to be satisfied.
Users of CP 2010-2 can check the methods of cathodic protection and basic requirements for the same. It helps users to examine the protection criteria, maintenance of pipelines, and ensure that the pipeline selected is entirely suitable and safe for the duty envisaged.
Thus, CP 2010-2 provides you with comprehensive information useful for designing high-quality, cost-effective, durable steel pipelines with negligible or no manufacturing defects.
