What is DD CEN/TS 15324 - Determination of the EVT of bitumen or bituminous binder about?
DD CEN/TS 15324 is a draft document and technical specification that applies to bitumen and bituminous binders. The main objective of DD CEN/TS 15324 is to ensure bitumen and bituminous binders play a positive role in maintaining the structural integrity of your civil engineering works.
DD CEN/TS 15324 describes the determination of the EquiViscous Temperature (EVT) of bitumen or bituminous binder samples, based on a defined, practice-related Low Shear Viscosity (LSV), using a Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR) in low-frequency oscillation mode.
The EquiViscous Temperature (EVT) measured by this binder test is seen as a performance indicator for the partial contribution of the bituminous binder to the rutting resistance of the compacted asphalt mixture under service conditions at elevated pavement temperatures.
The test method described in DD CEN/TS 15324 is applicable to unaged, aged and recovered bituminous binders including Polymer Modified Binders (PMBs).
Who is DD CEN/TS 15324 - Determination of the EVT of bitumen or bituminous binder for?
DD CEN/TS 15324 on bitumen and bituminous binders is useful for:
- Manufacturers of bitumen and bituminous binders
- Manufacturers and suppliers of construction materials
- Quality control and testing personnel
- Construction companies
- Civil engineers
- Contractors
Why should you use DD CEN/TS 15324 - Determination of the EVT of bitumen or bituminous binder?
EquiViscous Temperature (EVT) is the temperature at which a bitumen attains the proper viscosity for built-up membrane application.
The EVT, based on a defined Low Shear Viscosity, indicates the rutting susceptibility of the binder. EVT can only be used for comparing or ranking binders when the EVT is based on the same LSV, measured at the same shear stress or shear rate.
In this regard, DD CEN/TS 15324 specifies the solvents and test apparatus needed to test the EVT of bitumen or bituminous binder and includes test sampling, preparation of rheometer and specimen and test procedure.
As a result, if you are a manufacturer of bitumen and bituminous binders, DD CEN/TS 15324 -compliant test methods can be beneficial in ensuring the construction materials used play a positive role in making the pavement/road denser and more durable.
