What is DD IEC/PAS 62588 – Identification of PCB and its components about?
DD IEC/PAS 62588 is an international standard that covers the attributes of printed circuit board assemblies and their components.
DD IEC/PAS 62588 describes the marking of components and the labelling of their shipping containers to identify their 2nd level terminal finish or material and applies to components that are intended to be attached to boards or assemblies with solder or mechanical clamping or are press fit.
DD IEC/PAS 62588 applies to components and assemblies that contain Pb-free and Pb-containing solders and finishes. It also applies to 2nd level terminal materials for bumped die that are used for direct board attach.
Note 1: Labelling of exterior surfaces of finished articles, such as computers, printers, servers, and the like, is outside the scope of DD IEC/PAS 62588. It covers internal PCBs and PCBAs.
Who is DD IEC/PAS 62588 – Identification of PCB and its components for?
DD IEC/PAS 62588 on Identification of PCB and its components are useful for:
- Manufacturers of printed circuit boards (PCBs)
- Manufacturers and suppliers of electronic components
- Designers of printed circuit boards (PCBs)
- Quality control and testing personnel
- Regulatory authorities
Why should you use DD IEC/PAS 62588 – Identification of PCB and its components?
The application of PCB is essential in all electronic devices, whether they are used for residential or industrial applications. In a multi-processor context, the interconnection arrangement can determine total system performance.
DD IEC/PAS 62588 provides you with a marking and labelling system that aids in assembly, rework, repair and recycling and provides for the identification of:
- Those assemblies that are assembled with Pb containing or Pb-free solder
- components that have Pb-containing or Pb-Free 2nd level interconnect terminal finishes and materials
- The maximum component temperature is not to be exceeded during assembly or rework processing
- The base materials used in the PCB construction, including those PCBs that use halogen-free resin
