What is PAS 1008 - Flexitank about?
PAS 1008 is an international standard on flexitank that specifies the test method and test procedure of single-use flexitank. By using PAS 1008 you can manufacture good quality flexitank.
PAS 1008 specifies requirements for a single-use flexitank used for the intermodal transport of a liquid commodity (that is not classified or regulated as dangerous goods) in a general-purpose (GP) freight container. It is applicable to single-layer and multilayer flexitanks made from polyethene 2), polyethene blends and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It is applicable to flexitanks capable of carrying a commodity with the maximum mass of ≤24 000 kg and with a maximum
The volume of ≤24 000 L.
Note: The flexitank manufacturer might need to carry out compatibility testing to determine whether a flexitank is suitable for carrying a specific commodity. The compatibility of the flexitank and commodity depends on the chemical and physical properties of both the flexitank film and the commodity.
Note 2: Recommendations on the operation of the flexitank system are given in COA’s publication, Code of Practice for Flexitanks
Who is PAS 1008 - Flexitank for?
PAS 1008 on Specification for the performance and testing of a single-use flexitank is useful for:
- Shippers and cargo owners
- Flexitank operators
- Haulage companies
- Forwarders and non-vessel owning freight container operators
- Shipping lines
- Rail operators
- Freight container leasing companies
- Insurance companies and protection and indemnity (P&I) clubs
Why should you use PAS 1008 - Flexitank?
A flexitank consists of a large bladder with valves. This flexitank is useful in transporting the liquids from one place to another place.
PAS 1008 specifies the test methods and test procedure of a single-use flexitank. This test method helps in withstanding the operating pressure of valves without causing leakage. With the help of PAS 1008, you can evaluate the performance of the flexitank system by conducting a rail impact test.
Using PAS 1008 you can choose the accurate material to be used for producing these flexitanks. By applying PAS 1008, you can manufacture better quality single-use flexitank.
