What does PAS 7770 – Energy related consumer products cover?
PAS 7770 is an overarching standard for net zero in products in relation to the four Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Renew. It provides guidance for all businesses to standardize assessing the environmental performance of an energy-related consumer product across its full product lifecycle.
PAS 7770 considers the environmental implications of how products are made, bought, used, and disposed of. This includes the use of recycled materials for manufacturing, reuse, repair, reconditioning or refurbishment, upgrading, upcycling, recycling, increasing product durability and lifespan, and waste prevention and reduction.
Why should you use PAS 7770 – Energy related consumer products?
PAS 7770 supplies a road map to help all businesses in scope assess and reduce their products' lifetime environmental impact.
It will help them navigate the plethora of existing standards, clarifying where current standards should be used; plus it consolidates good practice from other relevant standards, helping businesses implement good eco-design while maintaining the safety of products.
PAS 7770 also calls attention to relevant UK legislation in the fields of product safety and eco-design, helping producers maintain legal compliance.
All of this is particularly helpful for smaller businesses on the road to net zero that don't have dedicated sustainability resources. It provides a starting point for those businesses and helps them towards achieving their net zero targets.
PAS 7770 can also help businesses to empower consumers to make greener choices, at the same time as answering growing demands for more product information and transparency. It will contribute to reducing the net environmental impact of energy related consumer products; and it will inform associated businesses, such as recyclers, about the factors that designers and manufacturers are considering during product development.
