All organizations rely on some form of supply chains, many of which are getting more complex and extending (often internationally), as we try to reduces cost and get more efficient.
Because reducing inventory time and other forms of “waste” means that goods, services, information and money are moving faster, the opportunities have massively increased…but so too have the risks. Within less time the impact of interruptions in the supply chain are getting bigger, felt more acutely, sooner and more often. It’s for this reason efficient networks are now more often than not proving the most vulnerable when exposed to a disruption.
In the worst cases, disruptions in the supply chain have seriously jeopardised or destroyed organizations not to mention the lasting effects of damaged brand image and reputation. By mapping supply chain results, as specified in PD 2522 you can better understanding where and how to improve your supply chain continuity, which in turn can increase efficiency and reduce the likelihood and impact of supply chain interruptions. But you can expect more benefits by simply adopting effective supply chain continuity management (SCCM) as specified in PD 25222.
Get a competitive advantage with good supply chain continuity management (SCCM)- You can gain new customers by distinguishing yourself from competitors who do not have in place effective SCCM arrangements. If you rely on any suppliers to deliver your services or products, and on time, you will appreciate the business sense it makes to make sure you can continue to function effectively if your supplier is no longer able to provide you with the products or service you need
- Collaborate with suppliers and customers more effectively
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks more often and earlier before they impact your organization - so you save time and money before a situation can escalate
- Improve business-as-usual supplier management, planning, due diligence, assurance and working relationships with suppliers
