What is PD 6634-1 – vehicle restraint systems database about?
While many reports and standards on vehicle restraint systems have been published, no single reference document dealing with the fundamental design and performance of the vehicle restraint systems in use in the UK was available earlier.
PD 6634 is a Published Document that fills this gap in the technical literature. PD 6634-1 consists of 14 summary tables with brief descriptions that provide a background reference and a database, upon which the other parts of PD 6634 are founded.
In PD 6634-1, for simplicity, the term barrier is used as a generic term to refer to any vehicle restraint device whose purpose is to contain or redirect an impacting vehicle.
Where the term fence is used, it generally refers to a post and rail barrier, rather than a barrier with a continuous footing.
