What is PD 6662 about?
A ‘fit for purpose’ intruder and hold-up alarm system (I&HASs) will comprise several components, including the right equipment, the right system design, and the right installation and maintenance regimes.
PD 6662 provides a ‘scheme’ describing how I&HAS should be assembled with reference to the relevant British and European standards, technical specifications, and D rafts for Development that specify different components of the I&HAS.
PD 6662 applies to IASs, Hass, and I&HASs, with wired interconnections and/or wire‑free interconnections and the scheme does not apply to exterior IASs which are installed in accordance with BS 4737‑4.3, nor does it apply to portable hold‑up devices which report directly to a monitoring centre.
Who is PD 6662 for?
PD 6662 on scheme for the application of European Standards for I&HAS is relevant to:
- Purchasers and specifiers of I&HAS in any sector
- Manufacturers
- Consultants
- Designers
- Insurers
- Alarm receiving centres (ARCs)
- Installers and maintainers of I&HAS
Why should you use PD 6662?
PD 6662 gives guidance on how the standards should be applied in an ‘integrated scheme’ which is one that integrates the I&HAS with another system, e.g. access control, fire detection, building management or a home automation system.
Anyone going to the cost and trouble of installing an intruder or hold-up alarm system wants one that is fit for purpose and meets both their needs and that of their insurance company. PD 6662 helps ensure that systems are rigorous.
In addition, only systems that are PD 6662 aligned and monitored are eligible to receive a Police Unique Reference Number, which is a prerequisite for systems requiring a police response when an alarm is triggered.
Overall, PD 6662 can ensure efficient integration and interoperability of the I&HAS with other systems and components.
