What is this standard about?
PD 6900 gives guidance on undertaking environmental impact assessments (EIA) for offshore wind, wave and tidal projects.
Who is this standard for?
It’s intended for all those who have a role in the consenting of offshore renewable energy projects, including developers, consultants and regulators.
It’s particularly relevant to members of professional bodies such as the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management, the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment and members of the Renewable Energy Association.
Why should you use this standard?
It gives guidance on undertaking environmental impact assessments for offshore wind, wave and tidal projects focussing on the main component of the offshore renewable energy project rather than the supporting infrastructure.
It covers all the elements of the EIA process such as screening, scoping, determining environmental impacts and environmental statement. It also addresses mitigation and monitoring plans and consultation and communication.
It covers existing guidance and key issues and gives some recommendations on how these can be tackled. It contains examples of good practice, case studies and engagement plans.
It also identifies the links to wider consenting requirements for offshore wind, wave and tidal stream projects.
