What is PD CEN/TR 14539 about?
PD CEN/TR 14539 gives the results of inter-laboratory testing to compare the accuracy and convenience of the official EC method for porosity measurement with two non-standardized alternative methods already used in some participating laboratories.
In PD CEN/TR 14539 three products, with a porosity between 1 % and 7 %, have been used in the inter-laboratory trials.
In PD CEN/TR 14539 Annex A, the oil retention of the fertilizer, which shall first have undergone two thermal cycles of a temperature ranging from 25 °C to 50 °C, shall not exceed 4 % by mass.
In PD CEN/TR 14539 Annex B, specifies the procedure for the determination of oil retention of straight ammonium nitrate fertilizers of high nitrogen content. The method is applicable to both prilled and granular fertilizers which do not contain oil-soluble materials.
In PD CEN/TR 14539 Annex C, specifies the centrifuge method that is applicable to all granular, compacted, prilled or otherwise formed ammonium nitrate fertilizers containing more than a mass fraction of 28 % nitrogen.
In PD CEN/TR 14539 Annex D, specifies the roller drum method for the determination of oil absorption in ammonium nitrate.
Who is PD CEN/TR 14539 for?
PD CEN/TR 14539 on determination of porosity in straight ammonium nitrate fertilizers is applicable to:
- Manufacturers of fertilizers
- Suppliers and importers of fertilizers
- Laboratories involved in quality testing of fertilizers
Why should you use PD CEN 14539?
Straight ammonium nitrate fertilizers of high nitrogen content (> 28 %), following Directive 80/876/EEC and Directive 87/94/EEC, are subject to the particular regulatory requirement of a maximum porosity limit of 4 %.
PD CEN/TR 14539 presents a comparison of non-standardized alternative methods for measuring porosity with the official one, through ring testing which gives you the flexibility to test nitrogen content through alternative methods. PD CEN/TR 14539 provides you with test procedures, methods for measuring porosity, products, gas oils, ring test, statistical interpretation, mean value, repeatability, reproducibility, interpretation of the results and more which allows you to determine the nitrogen content of fertilizers and increase their potency.
PD CEN/TR 14539 guidelines ensure you perform the test methods accurately and compare them to identify the method that is best suited for you.
