What is PD CEN/TS 15427‑1‑3 about?
PD CEN/TS 15427‑1‑3 is the third sub-part of the first part of the PD CEN/TS 15427 series of documents. PD CEN/TS 15427-1-3 defines:
- The characteristics that systems for the application of adhesion materials of the wheel-rail interface shall achieve, together with applicable inspection and test methods to be carried out for verification
- All relevant terminology that is specific to the adhesion materials of the wheel-rail interface.
PD CEN/TS 15427‑1‑3 is limited to specifying the requirements when applying adhesion material to the interface between the wheel tread and the crown of the rail and includes both train-borne and trackside solutions.
PD CEN/TS 15427‑1‑3 sets out requirements for the application for the adhesion materials and describes systems fitted onboard trains and on the track, as both systems may need to be employed to achieve effective adhesion.
NOTE: PD CEN/TS 15427‑1‑3 only covers the equipment and application of adhesion material to the active interface.
NOTE: PD CEN/TS 15427‑1‑3 only applies to the mainline railway.
Who is PD CEN/TS 15427‑1‑3 for?
PD CEN/TS 15427‑1‑3 on railway equipment and application is useful for:
- Railway engineer
- Manufacturers of railway wheel and wheelsets
- Manufacturers and suppliers of adhesion materials required for railway vehicles
Why should you use PD CEN/TS 15427‑1‑3?
Wheel/rail friction management is the systematic assessment and implementation of friction control, combined with the technology to monitor, maintain and manage friction to achieve short and long-term performance benefits.
PD CEN/TS 15427‑1‑3 provides requirements on designing the system of rail wheels to prevent wheelsets from locking and uncontrolled sliding, thereby minimizing the extension of stopping or slowing distances and possible wheel damage.
The specific purpose for the use of adhesion materials and their equipment is given in PD CEN/TS 15427‑1‑3 in order to achieve the desired outcome. (e.g., improved braking performance).
PD CEN/TS 15427‑1‑3 provides the requirements and design for train-borne and trackside equipment as well as the installation service to ensure that the adhesion material is being applied to the active interface.
Furthermore, PD CEN/TS 15427‑1‑3 specifies the features regarding the rail friction management of the wheel-rail interface which will help in reducing the wear of both wheel-rail and ensuring reliable braking performance.
