What is PD CEN 17060-Molybdenum concentrations in fertilizers about?
PD CEN 17060 is a standard that serves technical specifications for molybdenum concentrations in fertilizers, enabling the prevention of molybdenum and nitrogen deficiency.
PD CEN 17060 specifies a method for determining total and water extractable molybdenum in mineral fertilizers containing more than 10 % molybdenum.
PD CEN 17060 applies to water and aqua regia fertilizer extracts obtained according to prEN 16962:2016 and/or prEN 16964:2016.
Who is PD CEN 17060-Molybdenum concentrations in fertilizers for?
PD CEN 17060 on molybdenum concentrations in fertilizers applies to:
- Manufacturers of fertilizers
- Dealers and importers of fertilizers
- Testing labs for fertilizers
- Safety assurance services
- Regulatory bodies
Why should you use PD CEN 17060-Molybdenum concentrations in fertilizers?
The primary function of molybdenum is to improve plants' ability to absorb and utilise nitrogen, often known as Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE). Molybdenum is a component of two enzymes that help the plant convert nitrate to ammonium, allowing amino acid synthesis.
PD CEN 17060 provides users guidance on the gravimetric method for determining molybdenum concentrations in fertilizers. PD CEN 17060 provides users with a step-by-step procedure for the method, enabling users to do the technique correctly.
PD CEN 17060 provides users guidance on principle, sampling, sample preparation, reagents, apparatus, procedure, calculation, expression of results and test report, enabling the replication of process and accuracy of the results.
The adoption of PD CEN 17060 allows users to determine the molybdenum in concentrations > 10 % in fertilizers, enabling nitrogen acclimatization and detoxification of the sulfites.
