What is PD CEN/TS 17730 – Compost and digestate properties for fertilizing products about?
PD CEN/TS 17730 is a standard that covers compost and digestate properties for fertilizing products, enabling accurate sampling and analysis of fertilizers to determine their efficiency and potency in agricultural applications.
PD CEN/TS 17730 provides an overview of relevant methods for the properties of compost and solid digestate when used in fertilizing products, including
- Macroscopic impurities
- Oxygen uptake rate
- Self-heating factor
PD CEN/TS 17730 applies to the following component material categories- CMC 3, CMC 4 and CMC 5, as specified in the Regulation (EU) 2019/1009. Compost has been classified as CMC 3, fresh crop digestate as CMC 4 and digestate other than fresh crop digestate, as CMC 5.
Who is PD CEN/TS 17730 – Compost and digestate properties for fertilizing products for?
PD CEN/TS 17730 on compost and digestate properties for fertilizing products is useful for:
- Fertilizer Industry
- Regulatory bodies
- Buyers of fertilizers
- Suppliers of fertilizers
- Local and national authorities
- Quality assurance services
- Testing labs for fertilizers
Why should you use PD CEN/TS 17730 - Compost and digestate properties for fertilizing products?
Fertilizers are used by farmers and households to help crop and gardens flourish as they enrich the soil, retain moisture, and suppresses plant disease and pests. Without fertilizers, the soil would be depleted which would make crops difficult to grow. Owing to this, it is vital to know whether a fertilizing product meets the established safety and quality requirements.
PD CEN/TS 17730 provides you guidance on sampling and sample preparation, ensuring contamination-free samples for accurate analysis of fertilizers.
PD CEN/TS 17730 provides you guidance on a test method for the determination of the content of macroscopic impurities, ensuring the purity and quality of fertilizers.
PD CEN/TS 17730 also provides you guidance on a test method for determining the oxygen uptake rate, ensuring the efficiency and potency of fertilizers.
The safety and quality requirements with regards to parameters like macroscopic impurities, oxygen uptake rate and the self-heating factor are mentioned in PD CEN/TS 17730, as well as normative references of the test methods to be used to measure the properties of compost and solid digestate used in fertilizing products.
