What is PD IEC/PAS 61850-9-3- Communication networks and systems about?
PD IEC/PAS 61850-9-3 is a safety standard on communication networks and systems for power utility automation.
PD IEC/PAS 61850-9-3 specifies a precision time protocol (PTP) profile of IEC 61588:2009 applicable to power utility automation which allows compliance with the highest synchronization classes of IEC 61850-5 and IEC 61869-9.
Grandmaster-capable is an ordinary clock or boundary clock that is able to take the role of a grandmaster.
Who is PD IEC/PAS 61850-9-3- Communication networks and systems for?
PD IEC/PAS 61850-9-3 on precision time protocol profile for power utility automation is relevant to:
- Network engineers
- Electricians
- Electrical engineers
- Testing authorities
- Power utility automation team
- Manufacturers of clocks
- Manufacturers of oscillators
Why should you use PD IEC/PAS 61850-9-3- Communication networks and systems?
PD IEC/PAS 61850-9-3 specifies a precision time protocol (PTP) profile of IEC 61588:2009 applicable to power utility automation which allows compliance with the highest synchronization classes of IEC 61850-5 and IEC 61869-9.
PD IEC/PAS 61850-9-3 applies Layer 2 communication according to IEC 61588:2009 and uses peer-to-peer delay measurement according to the IEC 61588:2009, profile with restricted range values. When clocks have a single attachment, PD IEC/PAS 61850-9-3 is a subset of IEC 61588:2009 with the above restrictions.
Overall, PD IEC/PAS 61850-9-3 is useful as it specifies the requirement that applies to clocks that have been energized for 30 minutes to accommodate for instance temperature-controlled oscillators.
