What is PD IEC TR 62959 about?
PD IEC TR 62959 is a document on optical fibre cables. PD IEC TR 62959 is a technical report that provides information on cable shrinkage characterisation of optical fibre cables that consist of standard glass optical fibres for telecommunication applications.
The characterization specified in PD IEC TR 62959 is directed to the effects of cable shrinkage or cable element shrinkage on the termination of cables. Shrinkage can or cannot be a concern depending on the method of termination. Examples of different cable termination cases are included and described in PD IEC TR 62959.
To cover all relevant aspects of cables to be terminated, the recommended tests for performance evaluation of cables for different termination cases in addition to the optional tests for evaluation of shrinkage, effects are included in PD IEC TR 62959.
Who is PD IEC TR 62959 for?
PD IEC TR 62959 on optical fibre cables is useful for:
- Optical fibre cable manufacturers
- Telecommunication companies
- Medical institutes
- Automotive industries
- Military and space organizations
- Internet service providers (ISPs)
- Computer networking sectors
Why should you use PD IEC TR 62959?
Fibre optic cables transmit information in the form of light. These fibre optic cables have revolutionized the world of network communication as these cables have almost obliterated traditional methods of networking. PD IEC TR 62959 provides information on cable shrinkage which is sometimes used as a part of the performance criteria for optical fibre cables, including standard glass optical fibres for telecommunication applications.
A combination of the passive component design (connectors, passive components, protective housings or cable management components) and cable shrinkage influences the cable/component performance that is discussed in PD IEC TR 62959 as excessive shrinkage at the cable/device interface can cause extra process steps and/or extra precautions to be taken at the interface. This can cause degradation of the interface in service, for example, the failure of strain relief effectiveness at a connector as the sheath shrinks back in use compromising the continuously optimal optical transmission parameters.
PD IEC TR 62959 implementation on optical fibre cables can be convenient as this type of communication can transmit voice, video, and telemetry through local area networks or across long distances with minimum attenuation.
