What is PD IEC/TS 62257-1 – Rural renewable energy and hybrid systems about?
The IEC 62257 series covers various aspects of recommendations for renewable energy and hybrid systems for rural electrification.
The IEC 62257 series is designed as follows:
- Parts 2 to 6 are methodological supports for the management and implementation of projects.
- Parts 7 to 12 are technical specifications for individual or collective systems and associated components.
PD IEC/TS 62257-1 is the first part of the IEC 62257 series, and a technical specification first introduces a methodology for implementing rural electrification using autonomous hybrid renewable energy systems.
Secondly, PD IEC/TS 62257-1 provides a guide for facilitating the reading and the use of the IEC 62257 series for setting up decentralized rural electrification in developing countries or in developed countries, the only difference being the level of quality of service and the needed quantity of energy that the customer can afford.
Who is PD IEC/TS 62257-1 – Rural renewable energy and hybrid systems for?
PD IEC/TS 62257-1 on rural renewable energy and hybrid systems for rural electrification is useful for:
- Relevant government / municipal authorities
- Community leaders
- Project managers
- Rural electrification projects developers
- Rural electrification project implementers
- Contractors / supervisors / installers
PD IEC/TS 62257-1 is also relevant for the community for whom the project is implemented.
Why should you use PD IEC/TS 62257-1 – Rural renewable energy and hybrid systems?
Hybrid power systems offer solutions for rural electrification where power supply may be inconsistent. PD IEC TS 62257-1 serves as the introduction document for the series and provides you with guidance on selecting the system best suited for the area in question. PD IEC/TS 62257-1 also discusses designing, operating, and maintaining the system.
PD IEC TS 62257-1 guidelines are a step towards better, cost-effective, and more sustainable facilities for rural communities. PD IEC TS 62257-1 assists in promoting the use of renewable energies in rural electrification for developing countries.
What’s changed since the last update?
PD IEC/TS 62257-1:2015 supersedes PD IEC/TS 62257-1:2013 which is withdrawn. PD IEC/TS 62257-1:2015 includes some technical and editorial changes with reference to PD IEC/TS 62257-1:2013.
- Redefine the maximum AC voltage from 500 Va.c. to 1 000 Va.c., the maximum DC voltage from 750 Vd.c. to 1 500 Vd.c. and removal of the limitation of 100 kVA system size.
- Hence the removal of the word “small” in the title and related references in PD IEC/TS 62257-1.
