What is PD IEC TS 62271‑304 on Indoor enclosed switchgear and control gear about?
PD IEC TS 62271‑304 is an international standard that covers guidelines for high-voltage switchgear and control gear.
PD IEC TS 62271‑304 applies to indoor enclosed switchgear and control gear complying with IEC 62271-200 and IEC 62271-201, intended to be used in special service conditions with respect to condensation and pollution deviating from the normal service conditions.
PD IEC TS 62271‑304 specifies terms, definitions of indoor service conditions under condensation and pollution, classification of indoor enclosed switchgear and control gear, the test procedure for classification, test facilities and associated requirements, equipment for test, etc., for classifying the indoor enclosed switchgear and control gear.
Who is PD IEC TS 62271‑304 on Indoor enclosed switchgear and control gear for?
PD IEC TS 62271‑304 on indoor enclosed switchgear and control gear is useful for:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of switchgear and control gear
- Dealers and distributors of switchgear and control gear
- Designers of switchgear and control gear
- Test /service providers for switchgear and control gear
Why should you use PD IEC TS 62271‑304 on Indoor enclosed switchgear and control gear?
An indoor enclosed switchgear and control gear assembly is enclosed entirely from all the edges (other than ventilating openings and inspection windows) by using insulating material or sheet metal. It helps in the protection of the switchgear and control gear assembly.
PD IEC TS 62271‑304 gives you a detailed test procedure that has been designed primarily to classify the electrical insulation performance of equipment having high-voltage electrical insulation exposed to indoor service conditions. It also considers the assessment of mechanical components, such as mechanisms, interlocks, and enclosures.
PD IEC TS 62271‑304 gives you the classification of indoor enclosed switchgear and control gear according to equipment intended for use in a polluted environment classified as P0, for use in special service conditions with respect to condensation. This helps for the selection of indoor enclosed switchgear and control gear assembly, suitable for the required purpose and environment.
What’s changed since the last update?
PD IEC TS 62271‑304:2019 supersedes DD CLC/TS 62271‑304:2008, which is withdrawn. PD IEC TS 62271‑304:2019 includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
- The description of the several service conditions under condensation and pollution; the classification of enclosed switchgear and control gear, according to the testing procedure does not cover polluted service conditions PL and PH
- A wider description in Annex B of typical indoor environments based on ISO/IEC standards; a new Annex C giving guidance on precautions to improve indoor operating conditions; a new Annex D dedicated to the optional items such as records of mechanical characteristics
- A new Annex E, giving additional combinations of environments with condensation and pollution, as well as a proposal of the testing procedure of the ageing test, is provided to create an experience on the correlation between ageing effects in the laboratory and ageing effects at site conditions
