What is PD IEC TS 62600-20- Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) plant about?
PD IEC TS 62600 is a standard that discusses marine energy, including wave, tidal, and other water current converters.
PD IEC TS 62600-20 is the 20th part of the series that establishes general principles for the design assessment of OTEC plants. The goal is to describe the design and assessment requirements of OTEC plants used for stable power generation under various conditions.
PD IEC TS 62600-20 is applicable to land-based (i.e. onshore), shelf-mounted (i.e. nearshore seabed mounted), and floating OTEC systems. For land-based systems the scope of PD IEC TS 62600-20 ends at the main power export cable suitable for connection to the grid. For shelf mounted and floating systems.
PD IEC TS 62600-20 is general and focuses on the OTEC specific or unique components of the power plant, particularly the marine aspects of the warm and cold-water intake systems.
Who is PD IEC TS 62600-20-OTEC plant for?
PD IEC TS 62600-20 on design and analysis of OTEC plant is relevant to:
- Marine energy converter manufacturers
- Companies involved in hydraulic energy engineering
- Engineers
- Venture capitalists
- Entrepreneurs
- Finance authorities
- Regulators
Why should you use PD IEC TS 62600-20-OTEC plant?
OTEC is a technology that uses temperature differences (thermal gradients) between ocean surface waters and deep ocean waters to generate electrical energy. The temperature difference is critical in thermal energy in marine applications, and defined standards are required for optimal design in ocean thermal energy conversion systems.
Adopting the design recommendations in PD IEC TS 62600-20 can assist you in developing, manufacturing, and installing ocean thermal energy conversion systems that offer high engineering precision, and enhance the overall reliability and operational efficiency.
