What is PD IEC TS 62600-3 about?
PD IEC TS 62600-3 is the first part of the multi-series European standard that describes the measurement of mechanical loads on hydrodynamic marine energy converters such as wave, tidal and other water current converters for load simulation model validation and certification.
PD IEC TS 62600-3 also defines the requirements for full-scale structural testing of subsystems or parts with a special focus on full-scale structural testing of marine energy converter rotor blades and for the interpretation and evaluation of achieved test results.
Who is PD IEC TS 62600-3 for?
PD IEC TS 62600-3 on marine energy converters is relevant to:
- Marine energy converter manufacturers
- Renewable Energy Certification organizations
- Marine scientists
- Marine biologists
- Marine Energy test centres
Why should you use PD IEC TS 62600-3?
Marine energy includes waves, tidal streams, tidal ranges, ocean thermal, ocean current, run-of-river, salinity, etc., that can be harnessed from oceans.
PD IEC TS 62600-3 provides guidelines to help in the process of the structural design of marine energy converters, thorough understanding and accurate quantification of mechanical loading is of utmost importance. In the design stage, loads can be predicted with simulation models and codes. The measurement of mechanical loads of marine energy converters is important for the design, installation, and efficient operation of converters.
PD IEC TS 62600-3 also outlines the demands for full-scale structural testing of rotor blades as well as the interpretation and evaluation of test results.
PD IEC TS 62600-3 provides the requirements for the measurement of mechanical loads for marine energy converters which is useful for site selection, measurand selection, data acquisition, calibration, data verification, measurement load cases, capture matrix, post-processing, uncertainty determination and reporting.
PD IEC TS 62600-3 provides guidelines for mechanical load measurements that can be used both as the basis for the design and as the basis for certification of marine energy converters.
Overall, PD IES TS 626001 provide clear and consistent language which will aid the development of programs, projects and future standards, and measure the mechanical loads needed to manufacture more durable and stable mechanical energy converters.
