What is PD IEC TS 62600-4 about?
PD IEC TC 62600‑4 is the fourth part of the multi-series European standard that specifies the requirements of the technology qualification process for marine renewable technologies. Technology qualification is a process of providing evidence and arguments to support claims that the technology under assessment will function reliably in a target operating environment within specific limits and with an acceptable level of confidence.
The objective of PD IEC TS 62600‑4 is to provide the necessary practices and technical requirements, regarding technology qualification methodology, to support the needs of the IECRE certification process for marine renewables energy systems.
Who is PD IEC TS 62600-4 for?
PD IEC TS 62600-4 on marine energy converters is relevant to:
- Marine energy converter manufacturers
- Marine scientist
- Renewable Energy Certification organizations
- Marine biologists
- Developers of electricity generation technology from ocean waves
Why should you use PD IEC TS 62600-4?
Marine energy includes waves, tidal streams, tidal ranges, ocean thermal, ocean current, run-of-river, salinity, etc., that can be harnessed from oceans.
PD IEC TS 62600-4 provides guidelines that will assist in obtaining certification for marine renewable energy systems from IECRE certifying bodies and it will assist you in achieving an adequate level of confidence that the technology used is reliable in the target operating environment and meets specifications.
PD IEC TS 62600-4 guidelines for technology qualification can be used when the technology is new, some technologies may have been mostly demonstrated in the past, however, may have some completely new subsystems. Technology Qualification can help developers demonstrate that the technology has been properly developed and this can be of assistance to stakeholders and company owners.
Ultimately, PD IEC TS 62600-4 provides specifications for establishing the qualification of new technology and, therefore, benefitting the users by providing them with a more economical and cost-effective way of running marine energy converters by reducing labour and automating processes.
