What is PD IEC TS 63209‑1 about?
PD IEC TS 63209‑1 is a multi-part series of international standards which is intended to provide information to supplement the baseline testing, which is a qualification test with pass-fail criteria.
PD IEC TS 63209‑1 provides a standardized method for evaluating longer term reliability of photovoltaic (PV) modules and for different bills of materials (BOMs) that may be used when manufacturing those modules.
PD IEC TS 63209‑1 identifies vulnerabilities without attempting to gather the information needed to make a service-life prediction, which would require identifying failure mechanisms and their dependencies on all of the stresses.
PD IEC TS 63209‑1 was developed with primary consideration for c-Si modules, as reflected in the targeted failure modes. However, the applied stresses are based on the service environment, and as such are relevant to generalized PV modules.
Who is PD IEC TS 63209‑1 for?
PD IEC TS 63209‑1 on photovoltaic modules is applicable to:
- Manufactures and suppliers for photovoltaic modules/solar panels
- Companies dealing with solar panels/photovoltaic module
- Testing and installation of solar panels
Why should you use PD IEC TS 63209‑1?
Photovoltaic modules are a web which captures solar power to transform that power into a sustainable energy. It is also known as solar panels.
Exiting qualification test standard have been very useful for identifying module designs that avoid most early field failures, but are not intended or able to demonstrate long term performance in all locations within the scope of those documents.
PD IEC TS 63209‑1 provides a set of data for you which is to be used for qualitative reliability risk analysis, highlighting potential failure modes and areas possibly in need of improvement.
PD IEC TS 63209‑1 gives you two types of module test: module quality test (MQT) and module safety test (MST) and also provides the test results which will be greater for a larger number of test samples, and inclusion of multiple samples, which helps in modules for photovoltaic modules in a safe way.
PD IEC TS 63209‑1 also provides various characterization and stabilization technique such as: initial stabilization, visual inspection, performance, insulation test, wet leakage test, electroluminescent imaging, insulation thickness test, thermal cycling, humidity freeze and final stabilization, which is useful in modules for photovoltaic modules.
