What is ISO/TS 20224-1 about?
ISO/TS 20224-1 is the first part of a multi-series of international standard on molecular biomarker analysis.
ISO/TS 20224-1 specifies a real-time polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR) method for the qualitative detection of bovine-specific DNA derived from food and feed.
ISO/TS 20224-1 requires the extraction of an adequate amount of PCR amplifiable DNA from the relevant matrix and can be applied to the detection of bovine material derived from cattle including taurine (Bos taurus) and zebu (Bos indicus). The assay also detects the species bison (Bison bison) and yak (Bos mutus).
Who is ISO/TS 20224-1 for?
ISO/TS 20224-1 on molecular biomarker analysis is relevant to:
- Molecular biomarker scientists
- Animal food manufacturers
- Food scientists and testing laboratories
- Authorities/agencies involved in testing ingredient list in foodstuff and feeds
Why should you use ISO/TS 20224-1?
Molecular biomarkers play a vital role in highlighting the relationship between various environmental agents and human biology that helps modern scientists better understand biological processes and study diseases.
ISO/TS 20224-1 provides a real-time PCR analytical method for the identification of bovine-specific DNA present in the ingredients of food and feed with combination of different techniques. Ultimately, the analysis helps users avoid any potential risks to human health and safety through potential contamination and adulteration of food.
Through the requirements provided under ISO/TS 20224-1, manufacturers of animal-based food, scientists and quality and food testing laboratories can standardise the detection, identification, and quantification of DNA from animal species. As a result, ISO/TS 20224-1 can help you avoid fraudulent adulteration of meat in food and feed that could threaten both public safety and commerce. As a result, consumer reliability and confidence in the end-product can be optimised.
