What is ISO/TS 23541‑1 about?
ISO/TS 23541 discusses health informatics. ISO/TS 23541‑1 focuses on categorial structure for the representation of the 3D human body position system.
ISO/TS 23541‑1 is the first part of a multi-part series standard that specifies high-level concepts on bones that are required for 3D data representation in health information systems from a terminological perspective.
ISO/TS 23541‑1 is used for analysing, developing and managing terminologies in HBPS.
ISO/TS 23541‑1 define:
- Description of terminology concepts
- Use cases
- The relationship required for 3D data in terminological systems.
Note: Under ISO/TS 23541‑1 3D data structure, implementation and software functionality are not covered.
Who is ISO/TS 23541‑1 for?
ISO/TS 23541‑1 on bones is relevant to:
- Healthcare systems
- Medical records technician
- Healthcare workers
Why should you use ISO/TS 23541‑1?
Anatomical descriptions can be very abstract, requiring long narrative descriptions. These descriptions can lead to ambiguity and coding inconsistency. Text-based expressions lack expressiveness and accuracy, medical information is not captured and re-used sufficiently and there are also issues in interoperability.
Healthcare workers are seeking to achieve additional expressiveness by adopting 3D data in the medical field. Since 3D systems can deliver accurate spatial information in the human body, it is evident that a standard terminology infrastructure will provide additional expressiveness, accuracy and comparability when 3D data is adopted in medical informatics. 3D data can increase the accuracy and expressiveness of clinical terminology.
Having accurate data can improve data exchange between electronic health records, epidemiological analysis and quality. It can also be used in providing visual information about the disease to patients and caregivers. HBPS is a way of expressing these clinical concepts by combining 3D data and text-based terminology.
Concepts mentioned under ISO/TS 23541‑1 guide in improving the quality of electronic and personal health records in medical health record systems.
ISO/TS 23541‑1 assist in developing and managing terminologies in HBPS and thus, enhance the efficiency of medical systems.
ISO/TS 23541‑1 provides information that is useful in medical research.
ISO/TS 23541‑1 guides the user by providing them visual information about their disease regarding bones, thus leading to a better understanding of the disease.
