What is ISO 31657‑4 about?
ISO 31657‑4 is the fourth part of a series of documents on multi-lobed and tilting pad journal bearings. ISO 31657‑4 establishes the permissible operational parameters in terms of guide values for the calculation of selected multi-lobed and tilting-pad journal bearings.
To attain a sufficient operational safety of multi-lobed and tilting-pad journal bearings by the calculation according to ISO/TS 31657-1, it is necessary for the operational characteristic value hmin to be significantly above the permissible operating parameter hlim,tr and for the permissible operating parameters Tlim and plim not to be exceeded by the calculated operational characteristic values Tmax and pmax.
The guide values represent geometrically and technologically founded operational limiting values in the tribological system of plain bearings. They are empirical values that enable sufficient operational safety even in the event of smaller disturbing influences (see ISO/TS 31657-1). The empirical values indicated can be modified for special application areas.
Note: The explanations for the symbols and calculation examples are contained in ISO/TS 31657-1.
Who is ISO 31657‑4 for?
ISO 31657‑4 on multi-lobed and tilting pad journal bearings is relevant to:
- Manufacturer of multi-lobed journal bearings
- Suppliers and customers of multi-lobed journal bearings
- Mechanical engineer
- Mechanical drafters
Why should you use ISO 31657‑4?
Multilobe bearing, tilting pad bearings are designed to transfer high axial loads from rotating shafts with minimum power loss.
ISO 31657‑4 provide information on operational guide values for start-up and run-down, for avoiding thermal and mechanical overloading, for the bearing clearance of multilobe bearing, tilting pad bearings
As a user of ISO 31657‑4, you can be ensured of empirical permissible values, operational parameters required for the design and operation of the multilobe and tilting pad bearings. ISO 31657‑4 assist the user in determining the performance and sufficient operational safety of bearings. ISO 31657‑4 helps you in manufacturing high-quality multilobe and tilting pad bearings. With the necessary guidance and compliance to ISO 31657‑4, the user can improve the quality and operation of multilobe and tilting pad bearings.
