What is ISO/TS 7637‑4 about?
ISO/TS 7637 is a series of international standard on road vehicles that discusses on the electrical transient conduction.
ISO/TS 7637‑4 is the fourth part of the ISO/TS 7637 series of documents applicable to electrical transient conduction of road vehicles to ensure the compatibility to conducted electrical transients along shielded high voltage supply lines of equipment installed on passenger cars and commercial vehicles.
ISO/TS 7637‑4 specifies test methods and procedures with voltages higher than 60 V d.c. and lower than 1 500 V d.c. and a power supply isolated from the vehicle body. Also describes bench tests for both, injection and measurement of transients.
NOTE: ISO/TS 7637‑4 is applicable to all types of electrical independent driven, road vehicles (e.g. battery electrical vehicle (BEV) or hybrid electrical vehicle (HEV), plugin hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV)).
Who is ISO/TS 7637‑4 for?
ISO/TS 7637‑4 on electrical transient conduction is useful for:
- Road vehicle engineers
- Electric vehicle manufacturers
Why should you use ISO/TS 7637‑4?
Electrical transient is defined as momentary bursts of energy that are induced upon power, data, or communication lines. They are characterized by extremely high voltages that can drive tremendous amounts of current into an electrical circuit for a few millionths, up to a few thousandths of a second.
ISO/TS 7637‑4 provides methods for measuring the electrical transient emission on shielded high-voltage supply lines and test methods for the immunity of devices against transients and standard test conditions used for test temperature and supply voltage (low voltage).
ISO/TS 7637‑4 provides test instrument description and specifications including high voltage artificial network (HV-AN), HV power supply, measurement instrumentation, and load for high voltage battery or power supply.
Overall, ISO/TS 7637‑4 guides you in the designing of the electrical transient conduction to simulate electrical occurrences in operational environments with high voltage supply, including a load dump simulation.
