What is BS EN 1463‑2 about?
BS EN 1463‑2 is the second part of the multi-series of documents that is applicable to road marketing materials. BS EN 1463‑2 describes the test method for carrying out road trials on retroreflecting road studs. Specifications are given for test sites, for the organization of the tests, and for the presentation of the results in the form of a test report.
Who is BS EN 1463‑2 for?
BS EN 1463‑2 on undertaking road trials for retroreflecting road studs is applicable to:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of road materials such as retroreflecting studs
- Designers and installers of retroreflecting studs
- Civil engineers
- Contractors
- Road safety and management authorities
Why should you use BS EN 1463‑2?
Installed in various locations such as motorways, car parks and walkways, road marking materials such as retroreflective road studs provide guidance and warning to drivers. They supplement the function of traffic signs. The markings serve as a psychological barrier and signify the delineation of traffic path and its lateral clearance from traffic hazards for the safe movement of traffic.
The test procedure for conducting road trials on retroreflecting road studs is described in BS EN 1463-2. Specifications are provided for test sites, test organization, and the presentation of results in the form of a test report in accordance with BS EN 1463-2. Undertaking these tests in specified conditions will help you in direction and control of traffic on a highway, as well as the identification of the route layout.
Altogether, BS EN 1463-2 will enable a safe and systematic traffic system on highways and roads. Through measurement of night-time visibility and road trial assessments, appropriate road markings will ensure drivers clarity is not hampered even in bad weather conditions or during situations where visibility is poor. Apart from this, BS EN1463-2 will enable you to raise awareness of approaching danger spots and signal drivers to keep a check on their speed to prevent accidents.
