What is BS EN IEC 61300‑2‑14 about?
BS EN IEC 61300 is a series on fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components. It is a fibre- optic telecommunications technology for delivering broadband network access to end customers. BS EN IEC 61300‑2‑14 describes procedures for determining the suitability of fibre optic interconnecting devices or passive components to withstand exposure to the optical power which occurs during its operation.
Debris or the presence of contamination is one of the primary causes of failure in high optical power connector applications. BS EN IEC 61300‑2‑14 suggests that visual examination shall be undertaken in accordance with and preparation and cleaning of devices under test if done according to the instructions.
BS EN IEC 61300‑2‑14 describes the performance of initial examination and measurements on the devices under test as required by the relevant specification.
Who is BS EN IEC 61300‑2‑14 for?
BS EN IEC 61300‑2‑14 on fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components is useful for:
- Telecommunication equipment manufacturers
- Design engineer
- Quality control personnel
- Research and development facilities
Why should you use BS EN IEC 61300‑2‑14?
Optical power test methods are one of the main steps in creating a well-functioning optical fibre system and setting up production, as well as any other operational activity. BS EN IEC 61300‑2‑14 describes you with the test procedures which govern the first stage of verification of the fibre optic interconnecting devices or passive components through which you can determine their productivity and effectiveness in the future.
BS EN IEC 61300‑2-14 focuses on fibre-optic interconnection devices and passive components and provides you guidance on each optical fibre component and its functional applications by applying measurement and examination methods and power detection systems.
BS EN IEC 61300‑2‑14 also describes that when optical power input into both ends of the device under test (DUT) is required, two light sources, two branching devices and two detectors is used, to prevent optical power fluctuation, it is recommended that optical isolators be used with each light source.
BS EN IEC 61300‑2‑14 provides information about polarization-dependent loss (PDL) and wavelength-dependent loss (WDL) which can affect the measurement uncertainty of insertion loss (IL) change and the return loss (RL) change during the test, which are difficult to monitor during the test.
Using BS EN IEC 61300‑2‑14 you understand procedures for determining the suitability of fibre optic interconnecting devices or passive components to withstand exposure to the optical power which occurs during its operation.
