What is BS EN IEC 63057 about?
BS EN IEC 63057 is an international standard that ensures safe operability of lithium batteries in road vehicles.
BS EN IEC 63057 specifies safety tests and requirements for secondary lithium batteries permanently installed in road vehicles, not for propulsion. Replacement secondary batteries permanently installed in road vehicles, not for propulsion are covered in BS EN IEC 63057.
BS EN IEC 63057 applies to batteries with a maximum voltage less than or equal to 60 V DC.
Note: BS EN IEC 63057 does not apply to batteries used for propulsion in -
- Battery electric vehicles (BEVs)
- Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs)
- Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs)
Who is BS EN IEC 63057 for?
BS EN IEC 63057 on safety requirements for lithium batteries is applicable to:
- Manufacturers of battery
- Dealers and importers of battery
- Auto manufacturers
- Testing Laboratories
Why should you use BS EN IEC 63057?
Lithium batteries used in road vehicles have applications in power sources for the starting of internal combustion engines, lighting, onboard auxiliary equipment, and energy absorption for regeneration from braking.
BS EN IEC 63057 guides you safety requirements for lithium batteries which include insulation and wiring, venting, temperature/voltage/current, terminal contacts of battery, assembly of battery, requirements for BMS, a quality plan which ensures safe operations of battery in road vehicles.
Implementation of BS EN IEC 63057 ensures the operational safety and longevity of lithium batteries for road vehicles.
