What is ISO 17491-4-Determination of resistance to penetration by a spray of liquid about?
ISO 17491 is an international standard on the test methods for clothing providing protection against chemicals. ISO 17491-4 provides the best industry guidance on the determination of resistance to penetration by a spray of liquid to ensure protection against chemical hazards.
ISO 17491-4 is the fourth part of a multi-part series that specifies methods for determining the resistance of chemical protective clothing to penetration by sprays of liquid chemicals at two different levels of intensity:
- Method A: low-level spray test. This applies to clothing that covers the full body surface and is intended to be worn when there is a potential risk of exposure to small quantities of spray or accident allow-volume splashes of a liquid chemical.
- Method B: high-level spray test. This applies to clothing with spray-tight connections between different parts of the clothing and, if applicable, between the clothing and other items of personal protective equipment, which covers the full body surface and which is intended to be worn when there is a risk of exposure to sprayed particles of liquid.
Note: ISO 17491-4 does not address the chemical permeation resistance of the materials from which the chemical protective clothing is made.
Who is ISO 17491-4-Determination of resistance to penetration by a spray of liquid for?
ISO 17491-4 on the determination of resistance to penetration by a spray of liquid is useful for:
- Protective clothing manufacturers
- Protective clothing test personnel
- Occupational health and safety departments
- Risk assessment authorities
- Quality assurance departments
Why should you use ISO 17491-4-Determination of resistance to penetration by a spray of liquid?
PPE is equipment that protects the user against health or safety risks at work. It can include items such as safety helmets, gloves, eye protection, high-visibility clothing, safety footwear and safety harnesses.
ISO 17491-4 provides you with the principle of the test method, Liquid for application in the form of a spray, apparatus and test subjects, preparation of the test subject for the spray test, preparation of the spray application system, procedures, and much more.
The methods and procedures provided by ISO 17491-4 assist in improving the performance and quality of the protective clothing and ensure protection against the risk of toxic or corrosive chemicals, biological pathogens, molten metal splashes, thermal extremes, etc.
With obedience and compliance to ISO 17491-4, you can enhance the efficacy of protective clothing and manufacture a standardized product.
