What is ISO 22476-4 about?
ISO 22476-4 is the fourth part of the multi-series of documents that is applicable to the geotechnical investigation and testing on field testing. ISO 22476-4 specifies equipment requirements, the execution of and reporting on the Ménard pressuremeter test.
ISO 22476-4 describes the procedure for conducting a Ménard pressuremeter test in natural grounds, treated or untreated fills, either on land or offshore.
Who is ISO 22476-4 for?
ISO 22476-4 on equipment requirements of the prebored pressuremeter test is relevant to:
- Hydrogeologists
- Civil engineers
- Geotechnical engineers
- Technical consultants
- Contractors
Why should you use ISO 22476-4?
Geotechnical testing is carried out by geotechnical engineers, geotechnical technicians, or engineering geologists to determine the features of a worksite, such as the physical attributes.
Tests conducted under ISO 22476-4 provide lithological information in conjunction with measuring while drilling performed when creating the borehole. They can also be combined with direct investigation or compared with other in situ tests. In situ testing can help you gain the benefits of a more precise assessment of subsurface conditions, which will allow for better data analysis and informed geotechnical design. As a result, you will be able to obtain deformation properties of soils.
As a result of ISO 22476-4, identifying the right equipment and following necessary guidelines to conduct the prebored pressuremeter test is crucial for accuracy and efficiency. This could help identify risks and design foundations that are stable, irrespective of underlying conditions.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 22476-4:2021 supersedes BS EN ISO 22476-4:2012, which is withdrawn. BS EN ISO 22476-4:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN ISO 22476-4:2012. These include:
- Types of probes
- Correction procedures
- Probe placing techniques in Annex C
- Clarification of D
- Harmonization of terms and symbols
