What is ISO 9439-Evaluation of ultimate aerobic biodegradability of organic compounds about?
ISO 9439 specifies a method, by determination of carbon dioxide (CO2), for the evaluation in an aqueous medium of the ultimate biodegradability of organic compounds at a given concentration by aerobic microorganisms.
ISO 9439 applies to organic compounds which are:
- water-soluble under the conditions of the test, in which case removal of DOC may be determined as additional information (see annex D)
- poorly water-soluble under the conditions of the test, in which case special measures may be necessary to achieve good dispersion of the compound (see, for example, ISO 10634)
- non-volatile or which have a negligible vapor pressure under the conditions of the test
- NOTE For volatile substances use for example ISO 9408 or ISO 14593.
- not inhibitory to the test microorganisms at the concentration chosen for the test
NOTE The presence of inhibitory effects can be determined as specified in 8.3, or by using any other method for determining the inhibitory effect of a compound on bacteria (see, for example, ISO 8192).
Who is ISO 9439-Evaluation of ultimate aerobic biodegradability of organic compounds for?
ISO 9439 on the evaluation of ultimate aerobic biodegradability of organic compounds is useful for:
- Manufacturers of packaged drinking water
- Water suppliers
- Test laboratories/test personnel
- Food health and safety departments
Why should you use ISO 9439- Evaluation of ultimate aerobic biodegradability of organic compounds?
organic compounds are generally any chemical compounds that contain carbon-hydrogen bonds.
ISO 9439 provides methods and procedures for the evaluating ultimate aerobic biodegradability of organic compounds in an aqueous medium using a carbon dioxide evolution test.
ISO 9439 provides you with apparatus, sampling, transport, storage, and preparation of test pieces, preparation of reagents and apparatus, pre-treatment of test pieces, test procedure, and much more.
The test methods and procedures provided by ISO 9439 assist you in the determination of ultimate aerobic biodegradability of organic compounds and ensure reducing the risk of severe health issues.
With obedience and compliance to ISO 9439, you can enhance the efficacy of the water and manufacture a standardized product.
