What is ISO 22848 about?
ISO 22848 discusses the corrosion of metals and alloys. This international standard aims to ensure high-quality steel and by-products are incorporated in production by helping you identify the corrosion crack growth rate in them.
ISO 22848 specifies a test method for determining the stress corrosion crack (SCC) growth rate of steels and alloys under static-load conditions in high-temperature water, such as the simulated water environment of light water reactors. In ISO 22848 method, the crack length of the specimen is monitored by a potential drop method (PDM) during the test in an autoclave.
ISO 22848 test method is applicable to stainless steels, nickel-based alloys, low alloy steels, carbon steels and other alloys.
Who is ISO 22848 for?
ISO 22848 on measuring the stress corrosion crack growth rate of steels and alloys is applicable to:
- Steel foundries and refineries
- Manufacturers of steel and alloy parts and components
- Dealers and importers of steel and alloy parts and components
- Quality control personnel
- Metallurgists
Why should you use ISO 22848?
Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) can be stated as the increment in the cracks in steels and its alloys, due to the continuous burden of stress and a reactive atmosphere. Steel and alloys are very essential factors in structures, infrastructure, tools, ships, cars, machinery, electrical appliances due to their great tensile strength and low cost.
ISO 22848 gives you extensive testing procedures for measuring the stress corrosion crack growth rate of steels and alloys that includes the principle of tests, test equipment, crack length measurement, corrosion measurement as well as evaluation.
ISO 22848 enables you to accumulate data in one place and follow the least tedious procedure in order to standardize the testing for steel and by-products which enhances their quality and durability.
