What is ISO 6249 about?
ISO 6249 specifies a procedure for rating the tendencies of gas turbine fuels to deposit decomposition products within the fuel system.
The test results are indicative of fuel thermal oxidation stability during gas turbine operation and can be used to assess the level of deposits that form when liquid fuel contacts a heated surface at a specified temperature.
ISO 6249 is applicable to middle distillate and wide-cut fuels, with a particular focus on aviation gas turbine fuel performance.
ISO 6249 is also applicable to aircraft fuel that consists of conventional and synthetic blending components.
Who is ISO 6249 for?
ISO 6249 on the determination of thermal oxidation stability of gas turbine fuels is relevant to:
- Aeronautical engineers
- Suppliers of aviation turbine fuel
- Aviation regulatory bodies
- Quality testing departments of aviation companies
Why should you use ISO 6249?
Estimating the thermal oxidation stability of gas turbine fuels is essential for estimating the extent of deposits in degraded fuel.
The test method in ISO 6249 helps in measuring the high temperature stability of gas turbine fuels uses an instrument that subjects the test fuel to conditions which can be related to those occurring in gas turbine engine fuel systems.
The final result from this rating procedure is an absolute measurement of the thickness and volume of deposit on the heater tube that provides a basis for judging the thermal oxidative stability of the fuel sample.
With ISO 6249, you can ensure optimal aircraft fuel systems performance through critical parameters such as deposit thickness and volume.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 6249:2021 cancels and replaces the second edition (ISO 6249:1999), which has been technically revised. The main changes compared to the previous edition are that tube ratings (Annexes C, D and E) are included.
