What is ISO 630‑4 about?
ISO 630-4 is the fourth part in the multi-series of International Standards on ‘Steels for structural purposes’. ISO 630‑4 specifies qualities for high-yield-strength quenched and tempered structural steels. ISO 630‑4 applies to steel plates and wide flats rolled on a reversing mill which is used in the quenched and tempered condition and normally intended for welded or bolted structures.
ISO 630‑4 covers 10 grades and 5 qualities.
The steels specified in ISO 630‑4 apply to hot-rolled flat products with a minimum nominal thickness of 3 mm and a maximum nominal thickness of 200 mm
Note: ISO 630‑4 does not include the following structural steels
- Sheet and strip
- Tubular products
Who is ISO 630‑4 for?
ISO 630‑4 on high yield strength quenched and tempered structural steel is relevant to:
- Steel manufacturers
- Structural and mechanical engineers
- Construction industry
- Automotive industry
- Welders
- Fabricators
Why should you use ISO 630‑4?
Structural steel is a category of steel used for making construction materials in a variety of shapes.
ISO 630‑4 provides information on classification and designation of grades and qualities of the steel, steelmaking process, delivery condition, chemical composition, mechanical properties and the surface condition required to manufacture and perform quenching and tempering process on structural steel.
Compliance to ISO 630-4 will equip you with best practice guidance on ensuring greater formability and workability of fine-grain structural steel and make the right choice for your specific engineering needs. Incorporating a standardised process will also aid in improved product development and stringent quality control measures.
What’s changed since the last update?
ISO 630‑4:2021 replaces the first edition (ISO 630‑4:2012), which has been technically revised. The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
- Modification of the title to integrate wide flats
- Applicable thickness ranges have been added to the scope
- Extension of applicable thicknesses for s890q and s960q
- Addition of quality f for grade s960q, additional terms and definitions concerning heat treatments have been deleted because iso 4885 is in normative references of iso 630‑1
- The list of options has been updated as part has been integrated into iso 630‑1 and the formula for cev has been deleted because given in iso 630‑
- Order of listing chemical elements has been updated for grades of annex a by iso 6306
