SAE J1942-2026 Hose and Hose Assemblies for Marine Applications

SAE J1942-2026 specifies construction, performance, testing, qualification, inspection, and marking requirements for nonmetallic flexible hose assemblies used aboard commercial vessels.

SAE J1942™ MAY2026 is an SAE Surface Vehicle Standard for hose and hose assemblies used in commercial marine applications. Developed through the cooperative efforts of the U.S. Coast Guard and SAE, it establishes requirements for hose constructions and performance levels supporting safe operation in marine environments. The standard covers fluid power, fuel oil, lube oil, fresh and salt water, nonvital water, and pneumatic applications. It includes requirements for fittings, qualification testing, saltwater immersion and burst testing, flame and fire resistance, non-SAE J517 hose assemblies, inspection testing, marking, and documentation for listing applications under SAE J1942-1. This edition was issued in March 1989, revised in March 2019, and reaffirmed in May 2026, superseding SAE J1942 MAR2019.

Application Scope: Intended for manufacturers, testing laboratories, marine equipment engineers, vessel operators, and regulatory professionals selecting, qualifying, listing, inspecting, or installing nonmetallic flexible hose assemblies for commercial vessels inspected and certificated by the U.S. Coast Guard.
