summary
A reaffirmed SAE standard providing inertia dynamometer procedures for evaluating the performance, wear, and temperature effectiveness of commercial vehicle air brakes.
description
SAE J2115-2026 (R) establishes standardized inertia dynamometer test procedures for air and air-over-hydraulic disc and drum brakes used on on-highway commercial vehicles over 4536 kg (10000 pounds) GVWR. The standard includes an FMVSS TP-121D-01-based brake performance procedure and brake wear and effectiveness testing at increasing temperatures. It defines instrumentation, test inertia, cooling air, brake pressure control, thermocouple installation, burnish cycles, brake performance sequences, five wear test stages, inspection requirements, reporting requirements, and applicable FMVSS brake performance criteria. The document was issued in June 1993, revised in August 2020, and reaffirmed in January 2026, superseding J2115 AUG2020.
Application Scope: Use by brake manufacturers, commercial vehicle manufacturers, component suppliers, testing laboratories, and engineering teams conducting laboratory performance, wear, and thermal effectiveness evaluations of commercial vehicle air brake assemblies.
