SAE J2315-2026 Wheel Nut Seat Strength

SAE J2315-2026 defines test procedures and performance requirements for evaluating the axial strength and bearing surface of wheel nut seats.

SAE J2315™ JAN2026 is an SAE International Surface Vehicle Recommended Practice for evaluating the axial strength of wheel nut seats on wheels intended for passenger cars, light trucks, and multipurpose vehicles. The document provides deformation and yield strength test procedures, test equipment requirements, force and torque values, performance criteria, and bearing surface recommendations for steel and aluminum wheels. It also includes a data table for recording deformation and yield strength test results. This edition was reaffirmed in January 2026 and adds a reference to SAE J3204. It supersedes SAE J2135 JUL2021.

Application Scope: Use this standard for wheel design validation, nut seat strength testing, wheel manufacturing quality control, aftermarket wheel evaluation, and engineering assessment of passenger car, light truck, and multipurpose vehicle wheel assemblies.
