SAE J2425â„¢ JAN2026 is an SAE Recommended Practice for evaluating the characteristics and performance of heavy-truck steering control systems under simulated driver impact conditions and driver entry and egress conditions. This reaffirmed document defines requirements for steering control system construction, impact force limits, quasi-static loading resistance, surrogate jewelry assessment, test setup, body block characteristics, instrumentation, and impact velocity.
The practice incorporates acceptance criteria related to FMVSS 203 and CMVSR 203 and provides laboratory procedures for assessing steering wheels, steering columns, airbag and trim hardware, energy absorption, and resistance to plastic deformation.
Application Scope: Heavy-truck steering control system design, testing, validation, crashworthiness evaluation, regulatory compliance, and vehicle safety engineering.
